Brophy Prep graduate and most recently Salt Lake Community College standout Sai Tummala has signed with Arizona State and will have three years to play starting in 2013-14, head coach Herb Sendek announced.

"We are excited to welcome Sai to our program," says Coach Sendek, the 2009-10 Pac-10 Coach of the Year who has led Arizona State to four 20-win seasons. "He was really good last year and has proven he can make shots, and also is an outstanding athlete and great student. Combined with signees Chance Murray and Egor Koulechov and transfers Richie Edwards (Valparaiso) and Brandan Kearney (Michigan State), we have a great group of newcomers in 2013-14.

"We all watched Carrick Felix develop over his three-year career, so when you sign a transfer and he has three years to play that is an amazing advantage. We are excited to get him on campus and get to work.

Coached by Todd Phillips at Salt Lake Community College this past season, he received third-team All-American honors for his play this past season and was a first-team All-Region 18 pick. He averaged 14.5 points while shooting 41 percent from the three-point line for a team that reached as high as fifth in the nation. SLCC went 29-5 and was 14-1 in its conference as it won the regular season title.

He is the son of Dr. Chandram and Padma Tummala and his sister Shilpa is on the basketball team at Harvard. An all-state first-team pick at Brophy in 2010-11 and a second-team pick in 2010, he was coached by Tony Fuller in high school.

As a senior in 2010-11, he started all 29 games and averaged 17.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.2 blocks while leading Brophy Prep to a 21-8 record and a 5A state runner-up finish. He scored a career-high 33 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Mesa High, and as a junior in 2009-10 he averaged 11.4 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.7 rebounds as Brophy went 18-11. He scored a season-high 31 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against Salpointe Catholic.
