TUCSON, Ariz.---Senior right fielder Mikel Moreno homered for the second straight game and junior lefty Phill Lowery worked 6.0 innings of four-hit ball helping No. 19 Arizona State complete a three- game sweep of Arizona with a 12-4 win here Sunday afternoon.
The Sun Devils improved to 24-14 with the win, 11-6 in the Pac-10 South. The 24th-ranked Cats dropped to 25-16 and 7-11. The loss was the 11th in a row for Arizona, tying a school record. UA also dropped 11 straight in 1994. The sweep was ASU's first over Arizona since 1995 and their first in Tucson since 1987.
Lowery allowed just one run in improving to 6-4. Sophomore left fielder Willie Bloomquist and junior shortstop Michael Collins each collected three hits for Arizona State. Junior first baseman Dan Meier had a pinch-hit home run, his first as a Sun Devil.
Freshman third baseman Erik Torres collected two hits and drove in two for the Cats.
Arizona returns to action Tuesday when it plays host to Grand Canyon at Sancet Field at 7 p.m.
