TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University junior catcher Casey Myers has been invited to participate in the 2000 U.S. West USA Baseball National Team Trials, which will be held June 15-21 in Tucson, Ariz.

Myers is one of six final invitees, who will join 29 other collegiate players announced at an earlier date. Sun Devil sophomore pitcher Jon Switzer is also amongst the group of athletes who will workout at Hi Corbett Field.

The 2000 USA National Team will be selected from the pool of 35 players, and will play approximately 30 games on the U.S. West Red, White and Blue Summer Tour under Head Coach Mike Gillespie of USC.

Myers helped lead ASU to its first conference title since 1993 with a team-leading .412 batting average, 18 home runs and 97 RBI. The Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year, he also earned first team All-America recognition from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers' Association second team status from both Collegiate Baseball and USA Today/Baseball Weekly. In addition, Myers, who carries a 4.0 GPA in Mathematics, was named the GTE Academic All-American of the Year for baseball and is a candidate for Baseball America's National Player of the Year award. On June 6 the Casa Grande, Ariz., native was a 30th-round draft choice of the Milwaukee Brewers.
