Final Stats

#5 ASU 10, #15 UCSB 7

The No. 5 Arizona State University water polo team improved to 4-0 on the season with victories over ranked teams from UC Santa Barbara and CSU Northridge on Saturday at the UCSB Winter Invitational.  Full recaps of each game are below.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.  – The No. 5 Arizona State University water polo team didn’t cruise like they had in their first three games, but the Sun Devils held on to come out on top over a tough #15 UC Santa Barbara squad, 10-7, to improve to 4-0 on the season while wrapping up the second day of action at the UCSB Winter Invite.

Alicia Brightwell continued her amazing start to the season, putting away four goals to lead the Sun Devils over a scrappy UCSB squad competing with the home-pool advantage at the Campus Pool.   The tally put Brightwell at 17 goals through four games as she continued to live up to her first-team All-American distinction.

Petra Pardi added three goals for her first hat trick of the season while Shannon Haas netted two goals and Anna Kertes had another.  E.B. Keeve had eight saves from the cage as she improved to 4-0 in her first four starts as a Sun Devil.

The Gauchos were 6-0 heading into this evening’s contest while the Sun Devils have yet to give up more than seven goals in a match in the tournament and scoring 10 or more in each game.

The Sun Devils wrap up the UCSB Winter Invite tomorrow with a tough test against #6 UC Irvine before taking on Concordia to wrap up the weekend.

#5 ASU 12, #17 CSUN 6

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.  – The No. 5 Arizona State University water polo team jumped out to an 8-4 halftime edge against #17 CSU Northridge and never looked back from there as they improved to 3-0 on the season with a 12-6 victory over the Matadors on Saturday morning.

Alicia Brightwell asserted herself as the most dominant player in the pool yet again, netting six goals in the game for the second-highest tally in school history.  She already holds the school record with seven, alongside Shannon Haas and Addison McGrath.

Shannon Haas had two goals as she continued to be impressive early this season as she moved into fourth on ASU’s all-time goals scored list with 135 now in her career – just three behind recently departed standout Mariam Salloum.

Petra Pardi and Gao Ao each netted two goals as well while redshirt freshman E.B. Keeve continued to be dominant in the goal, stopping 12 shots for her third consecutive game with double-digit saves.

The Sun Devils will take on #15 UCSB later this evening to wrap up their second of three doubleheaders scheduled for the opening weekend tournament at the UCSB Winter Invite.
