TEMPE, Ariz.—Coming off a season-high score of 195.675, set on the road at Denver, the Arizona State women’s gymnastics team returns to Wells Fargo Arena for its final home of the season, Friday, against the Bridgeport Knights. The meet, which starts at 7 p.m. PT and will be a Green Meet, will also be the final home meet for graduate student Kahoku Palafox and senior Amelia Rew.

In the Sun Devils’ last meet at Denver, ASU regained momentum after some early stumbles on beam to post the team’s highest score of the season. The Gym Devils posted their highest team total on floor with 49.275, counting a 9.900 from sophomore Morgan Steigerwalt and a 9.875 from Natasha Sundby.

Arizona State also passed the 49-mark on vault for the first time this season with three vaults in the line-up recording a 9.825 or better. For the second-straight week, freshman Carissa Kraus landed the top vault tying her season high score of 9.875. In all, ASU set eight new career records in the meet against Denver, not too surprising for a team that competed underclassmen in 22 of the 24 line-up spots.

The final meet at home will also mark the Sun Devils’ final regular season meet. After Bridgeport, ASU travels to the Pac-12 Championships in Corvallis, Ore. to begin postseason competition and will then learn its Regional destination in an NCAA selection show following the conference meet.

In honor of Palafox’s degree in sustainability and Rew’s degree in bioscience, the Gym Devils will host their first-ever zero-waste “Green Meet” where everything used in the arena can either be recycled or composted. Wells Fargo Arena will have seven stations set up around the concourse with recycling and compost bins. These stations will be manned by “Green Ambassadors”, who will help and educate fans on which products can be recycled and which products can be composted. The Gym Devil Green Meet is one step in the direction of Arizona State’s goal of zero waste by 2015.

To show support the Green Meet, fans will receive $3 admission for wearing green. The gymnasts will wear green shirts while warming up and compete with green ribbons in their hair. Also, the first 100 fans through the doors will receive ASU Gymnastics flash drive bracelets.
