Men's Swimming and Diving

(Michael Chasson/2nd Year, Mark Bradshaw/3rd Year): Finished with 3-6 dual meet record, including fifth consecutive victory over Arizona ... placed 10th at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, its third top-10 showing in the past five seasons ... fifth place finish at the Pac-10 Championships in Federal Way, Wash ... freshman Attila Czene became the first NCAA individual champion from Arizona State since 1996 by winning the 200-meter individual medley in a world record time of 1:54.65 ... Czene also won the Pac-10 title in the 200-yard IM (1:44.08) and established another school record in the 200 butterfly with his 1:44.49, second place showing at the Pac-10's ... by winning the three-meter springboard competition, junior Marc Briggs became the first Sun Devil Pac-10 diving champion since 1983 ... Briggs also earned All-America honors in the platform (eighth place) and one-meter (16th place) events at the NCAA's, the first such awards earned by a Sun Devil diver since 1983 ... ASU's 800 freestyle relay team of Czene, freshman Anders Lyrbring, sophomore Bo West and junior Scott VonSchoff notched the highest relay finish in Sun Devil national championship history by placing second ... that squad set a new school record (6:24.73), as did ASU's teams in the 200 medley (1:27.78) and 400 medley (3:14.98) relays ... no Devil squad finished lower than 12th in any of the five relay events held at the NCAA Championships ... junior Otto Hinks established a new school record of 54.46 in the 100 breaststroke en route to earning the first All-American award of his career with an eighth place showing at the NCAA's ... senior Pablo Abal swam the fastest 100 backstroke time in ASU history (47.85) during an 11th place finish at Nationals ... all nine Sun Devils who participated in the NCAA Championships captured All-America honors in at least one event, with Czene leading the way with seven awards ... ASU took first place at the Northwestern Invitational, emerging victorious over three nationally-ranked teams ... Abal was a First Team Pac-10 All-Academic selection, while Hinks, senior Andrey Trinidad, sophomore Chris Visser and West garnered Honorable Mention recognition.

(Michael Chasson/2nd Year, Mark Bradshaw/3rd Year): Recorded a 4-5 dual meet record ... finished in a tie for 21st at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, its highest national finish since 1995 ... sixth place finish at the Pac-10 Championships in Long Beach, Calif ... sophomore Sarah Baham took seventh in the 100-meter butterfly (1:00.31) and 10th in the 200 fly (2:11.95) at the NCAA's, earning All-America honors in both events ... 200 fly time broke her own school record ... Baham also set ASU record in the 100 fly at the Texas Invitational ... she joined sophomore Riley Mants, junior Lauren Morelli, and senior Carolyn Adel to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors in the 400 medley relay by placing 10th at the NCAA's, breaking the school record with a time of 3:41.66 ... same group also swam the fastest 200 medley time in school history (1:42.64) ... .Adel was an individual All-American by virtue of her 16th place showing in the 400 individual medley ... she established new Sun Devil records in both the 200 and 400 IM at the Texas Invitational ... senior diver Katrina Pfeuffer had a stellar NCAA Championships, placing eighth on the one-meter springboard and 16th in platform competition, becoming an All-American in both events ... Pfeuffer also carded three top-seven finishes at the Pac-10 Championships ... ASU's highest Pac-10 finisher was junior Trish Malatesta, who placed third in platform diving ... Baham scored a fourth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (54.41) and touched the wall fifth in the 200 fly (1:59.61) at the conference meet ... ASU took first place at the Northwestern Invitational, emerging victorious over three nationally-ranked teams ... Morelli established a new school record in the 100 back at the NCAA Championships ... she was also named a "Sun Devil Star" for her involvement in the community ... senior Sarah Adams, Adel, Malatesta, senior Alyson Miller and Pfeuffer were First Team Pac-10 All-Academic honorees ... senior Amanda Clegg, senior Mandy Contreras, junior Anne Rogalla and senior Tennille Taylor were Second Team selections ... Honorable Mention recognition was given to senior Stephanie Elwonger, senior Casey Murphy, junior Kelli Sasada and sophomore Amanda Stanford.
