LIVE RESULTS

LOS ANGELES – Arizona State University track and field senior Keia Pinnick set a new career-best score for the first day of a heptathlon competition on Saturday to open the 2013 Pac-12 Track and Field Championships in Los Angeles.

Pinnick scored 3,441 through the first four events of the competition to take the early lead in the action heading into tomorrow’s second and final day at Cromwell Field at Loker Stadium.  She leads UCLA’s Tatum Souza by 56 points.

The senior opened the day with a new all-time career best time of 13.27 in the 100-meter hurdles for the fastest time in her life – heptathlon or not.  It was just six hundredths of a second off the ASU heptathlon record and the sixth-fastest time overall in ASU history.

Pinnick followed up that performance with a clearance of 1.69m (5-06.50) in the high jump - which tied for the best mark in the field - and a throw of 10.81m (35-05.75) in the shot put as Souza took a temporary lead in the event heading into the final event of the day in the 200-meter dash.

There, Pinnick won her third event of the day in a time of 24.51 to cap off the day with her final score of 3,441, which was a couple points better than her previous First Day best set at the Jim Click Combined Events earlier this season.

Pinnick is currently ranked third in the nation in the heptathlon with her career-best score of 5,791 points set at that same event.

Competition resumes tomorrow with the women’s long jump, beginning at Noon PT. Fans can follow live results at www.RoyalResults.com.
