MESA, Ariz. -- Oral Roberts designated hitter Stockton Davis fell just a triple short of hitting for the cycle, going 4-for-4 with a home run, three runs scored and two RBI to help lead the Golden Eagles to a season-opening 9-1 win over Southern Utah in the opening game of the inaugural Bill Kajikawa Classic Thursday at Hohokam Park.

ORU sophomore starting pitcher Rene Recio picked up the win on the mound, scattering three hits and allowing only one unearned run in six strong innings. Relievers David Humen, Troy Pickford and Dallas Martin combined for three hitless innings out of the bullpen.

Southern Utah starting pitcher James Anderson picked up the loss, allowing five hits and two runs in five innings.

Davis will come back tomorrow for the Golden Eagles to start on the mound vs. Oregon State at 12 p.m. Southern Utah will face Arizona State at 4 p.m. with junior right-hander Steven Stoker scheduled to pitch for the Thunderbirds.
