TEMPE, Ariz.--Arizona State gymnastics head coach John Spini announced today that gymnast Rebekah Conrad signed a letter of intent to study and compete for the Gym Devils. Conrad will join Gilly Hogue and Kellie Wanamaker as part of the Sun Devils' 2014 freshmen class.
"We are so excited to have Beka join the Sun Devil family," said head coach John Spini. "She is an incredibly talented athlete and another great recruit to continue the on-going success and resurgence of the Arizona State gymnastics program."
Conrad is a level 10 gymnast who trains at World Class Gymnastics in Newport News, Va. The high school senior finished third in the all-around at the 2013 Virginia State Championships and second overall on beam. She also finished fifth at her Regional Championships qualifying Conrad for her fourth-consecutive Junior Olympic Nationals. In 2012, Conrad placed first on bars and floor and third in all-around in her region. After qualifying for JO's, Conrad finished 18th overall, nationally, in the all-around.
"Beka is a strong, powerful athlete that will help us tremendously on both floor and vault," said assistant coach Kari Ward. "We also expect her to add depth and clean lines to our bar line-up."
The Sun Devils graduate Kahoku Palafox and Amelia Rew from the 2013 team that relied heavily on the contribution on the 11 underclassmen. Next season, Samantha Seaman will be the lone senior and will be backed by a talented team with extensive competition experience.
