TEMPE, Ariz. -

The No. 37 Arizona State Sun Devils (2-0; 0-0 Pac-12) women's tennis team defeated the Aggies of UC Davis by a score of 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz.

With a sweep of UC Davis via a win on every court for Arizona State, the Sun Devils closed out the Spring 2013 opening weekend on a good note. But for freshman Ebony Panoho, her win on the No. 5 court was an even sweeter one. Not only did Panoho win swiftly in two sets, losing only one game, she also earned her first W as a collegiate tennis player.

"It was a great feeling to only drop one game," freshman Ebony Panoho said. "My serve improved as well as my forehand, I was using it a lot more today. I've gained some confidence after that match today."

One of only three freshman on the team, Panoho joined the squad in the back-half of the fall season and competed for the first time as a Sun Devil the day prior in a match against Northern Arizona. Arizona State Head Coach Jacqueline Cako back into the lineup at the No. 1 singles position after playing against NAU the day before without her. Cako competed individually in the fall season while the rest of the team competed in other tournament play; but the nationally-ranked senior had no problem getting back into the "team groove" winning 6-2, 6-2 on the singles court and 8-3 while working with teammate Nicole Smith on the doubles court.

The rest of the Sun Devil squad experienced the same success, with senior Hannah James hitting the six mark first in both of her sets, 6-2, 6-3. The senior is slowly working her way back up through the lineup after being forced to take a break from tennis for some time following a surgery last summer.

Junior Leighann Sahagun tacked on a win to go with two more wins from Desirae Krawczyk and Stephanie Vlad. All in all, Arizona State won commandingly won each individual match with the exception of the No.3 doubles play that was stopped due to a point decision via wins on the first and second courts.

"All of the matches we're routine, but we know that we have to get better; our schedule gets tougher as we move on," McInerney said.

Arizona State will travel to face Oklahoma, Hawai'i, and the University of Miami this up-coming weekend.

"I think everyone had a bit of a test this weekend, and we know that we have to play good tennis coming up. But  that's what you have to expect," McInerney said.
