A pair of freshmen lead the way for Sun Devil men's golf after the first two rounds of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, CA. ASU is tied for 12th-place going into the final round, which will tee off Tuesday morning at 7:45 PT.
Jon Rahm Rodriguez, a familiar face atop the scorecard for Arizona State, is tied for 24th along with fellow-freshman teammate Max Rottluff. Coming off his second-place finish at the Pac-12 Preview where he finished the last 36 holes at 15-under par, Rahm Rodriguez followed it up with rounds of two-under par 69 and an even 71, to put him two under for the tournament. Rottluff shot a first round four-under par before shooting two-over in the second round.
Sophomore Mathias Schjoelberg sits tied for 46th-place at two-over par, but shot an even par in the second round. Austin Quick shot rounds of 72 and 75 placing him tied for 58th, while Alberto Sanchez is tied for 73rd.
The host team Cal Golden Bears lead the way thus far, nine strokes ahead of San Francisco. BYU, San Diego State, Colorado State and Wichita State are all tied for third 26 strokes behind.
Brandon Hagy of Cal shot a first round 64 followed up by a second round of nine-under par 62. He leads the field by five strokes.
