VANCOUVER, Wash. - Arizona State freshman distance runners JJ Duke and Roger Cahill finished 10th and 32nd, respectively, in the Junior Men's 8,000m race at the 2002 USA Winter Cross Country Championships, Sunday, Feb. 10, at Fort Vancouver Historic Site in Vancouver, Wash.

Duke crossed the finish line in 10th place with a time of 25:45, but just missed qualifying for the U.S. team by four places. The top six finishers in the junior race qualified to compete for the U.S. team at the World Cross Country Championships, held March 23-24, in Dublin, Ireland. Cahill also put in a strong performance, placing 32nd in 27:02.

Duke is coming off an outstanding collegiate cross country debut in 2001, for which he was named the Pac-10 Men's Cross Country Newcomer of the Year by the league's coaches. Duke was the top freshman finisher at the Pac-10 Championships (15th), and earned All-Pac-10 and All-Region honors as well. Cahill redshirted the 2001 cross country season.
