TEMPE, Ariz. - SU Baseball dominated the weekly Pac-10 Awards, as Arizona State's junior LHP Brian Flores was named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week and sophomore catcher Kiel Roling was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Flores went 2-0, including a complete game, while Roling knocked in 15 runs, helping lead the Devils to six straight wins over Kansas State and Maine.
Flores (Carlsbad, N.M.) threw his first complete game as a Sun Devil on Wednesday night against the Wildcats, allowing seven hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out eight in a 6-2 ASU victory. He followed that up by picking up his second victory of the week against Maine on Sunday afternoon. On the week, Flores allowed only ten hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out 12.
Roling (Grand Junction, Colo.) was a terror at the plate, going 12-20 (.600) with seven extra base hits, including two home runs. He had 15 RBI in the five games he played, including eight during the second game of a doubleheader on March 17, in which he went 5-5. The eight RBI was one shy of a school record. Roling scored 11 times during the week, including six times during the St. Patrick's Day game. The six runs scored tied a school record.
The Pitcher of the Week honor is the first for Flores and marks the 50th selection all-time for Arizona State, which includes Josh Satow, who was named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week on February 13. The Player of the Week honor is the first of Roling's career, while it is the 80th such honor for Arizona State.
