In a swift start, Cheyenne Coyle went yard in the bottom of the first on a shot that looked like Oregon's center fielder could make a snag, but the ball had enough lift to clear the fence for a 1-0 Arizona State lead.
Oregon hit itself into control in the top of the second with Alexa Peterson scoring Kailee Cuico on a single to right center. Samantha Pappas then came home from third base on a hit by Allie Burger - ASU drew the third out in Peterson who overshot third base, but not before the Ducks took a 2-1 advantage.
The score teeter-tottered once again after Arizona State scored two, 3-2, off the bat of Sam Parlich in the third. Parlich's chop to center brought pinch runner Abby Spiel and Haley Steele across home. Oregon's middle infielders collided and Courtney Ceo would leave the game after the play.
ASU's streak in the third continued to score two more in the frame, 5-2, one on an error and another unearned on a Lucy Aubrecht single through the left side.
The final run of the game was Oregon's Koral Costa's sacrifice fly to center that scored Peterson to make it a 5-3 score in the fourth inning. Oregon's Cheridan Hawkins (17-5) takes the loss after 3.1 innings worked and giving up four runs, three earned. Karissa Hovinga came in briefly for 2.2 innings, striking out two batters in 58 pitches.
The regular season finale and Senior Night is Saturday's game against No. 3 Oregon. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. PT and will be aired on the Pac-12 Network.
