ICA to Make Donation to ASU Libraries
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State University's Intercollegiate Athletic Department (ICA) is forwarding $50,000 to the ASU Library System, as announced by department officials.
The presentation of the proceeds will take place just before kickoff of the ASU-USC football game on Saturday, October 11, 1997, at the Sun Devil Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. (MST)
"Our intent is for these resources to be utilized by the Dean of the University Libraries in a way the most improves the ASU Library System," says Director of Athletics Dr. Kevin White. "The $50,000 is a result of excess Rose Bowl residual income. To be sure, the entire ASU Athletics community feels a strong commitment to supporting one of the finest library's in the country, wherein all Sun Devil students are incredibly well served."
ASU University Libraries has already distinguished itself as one of the top 35 academic research libraries in the United States and Canada.
"As an avid reader, I know the value a library can provide any community," Head Football Coach Bruce Snyder says. "Just as a first-class playing facility is vital to our athlete's success, a first-class library is vital to their success as students. The ASU community is blessed with both."
Members of the Student Athlete Advisory Board and ASU head coaches will make the presentation together prior to the game.
