An East Valley duo led the Sun Devils to a 104-70 win over Tusinghua on Monday night in Beijing. Eric Jacobsen (Hamilton High School) had 25 points while Calaen Robinson (Corona del Sol) added 16 points and six assists.

"I was really impressed with Calaen Robinson who played so well, especially on the defensive end, in his first game in more than a year," said Coach Sendek. "He really did a nice job distributing, running our offense and playing hard. It was fun to watch."

Robinson, a redshirt freshman, used his southpaw game to get in the lane and scored on a variety of moves and was very good guarding pick-and-rolls. He was active, and with Jahii Carson sitting out as a precautionary measure due to getting "dinged in the head (Jahii's words) last week, Robinson showed energy from the opening tip.

ASU had an 11-0 run to lead 19-10 first quarter, led by the bench play of sophomore Eric Jacobsen who had 25 points off the bench.

"Eric has a chance to make a really good jump in one year," said Coach Sendek about the sophomore. "He has had a great summer. He is in great shape, got a lot stronger and really is focused on being a great player."

Jacobsen had 13 points in the first half as ASU had a 43-22 lead at intermission.

ASU started Robinson, junior Bo Barnes, newcomer Sai Tummala (sophomore), and returners Jon Gilling and Jordan Bachynski. Bachynski had 13 points and four blocks.

"I thought our young guys played great. Really, really well. I loved the way Egor (Koulechov) came out ready to play off the bench."

Koulechov had 11 points, while Richie Edwards had 10. Chance Murray had 13 as well as ASU led 72-49 at the end of the third.

"It was fun to get out and see the guys in our uniforms again," said Coach Sendek. "We have done a lot of sightseeing and have a had a great experience here, but when the ball tipped tonight it was fun to just play ball again and see the maroon and gold out there for an opening tip."

NOTES: The game was played under international rules, but four Sun Devils have no issues understanding that game, as Jon Gilling (Denmark), Jordan Bachynski (Canada) and Egor Koulechov (Russia/Israel) all are familiar with the rules from playing, while Eric Musselman has coached in many international games.
