TEMPE, Ariz. – In addition to being honored for its team GPA by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), the Arizona State women’s team had four athletes named ITA Scholar Athletes.

Outgoing seniors Nikki Smith and Hannah James, junior Joanna Smith and sophomore Stephanie Vlad each earned honors from the tennis governing body for their academic achievements. Nikki Smith recorded a 4.00 in her final two semesters at ASU, while James earned a 3.82 to close out her career.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).

With nine-straight APR scores of a perfect 1000, the NCAA has honored the Arizona State women’s tennis team, led by head coach Sheila McInerney, each year the public recognition announcement has been in existence.
