TEMPE, Ariz. – The Tillman Tunnel inside Sun Devil Stadium has undergone a number of improvements in advance of the football team’s season opener against Sacramento State Sept. 5.
“Pat’s principles are such an important part of everything we do,“ Vice President for University Athletics Steve Patterson said. “The values he represented and the tradition he built upon helped bridge the gap between the field and the community, so it is fitting that this tunnel bears his legacy.”
Thanks to contributions from Core Construction and Gilbane Construction, as well as Gould Evans, which designed the project, new graphics and signage adorns every surface, a gate opens up to the field, double doors separate the locker room from the tunnel, and a 90” TV with new speakers and sub-woofers hangs from the ceilings.
“The way Pat lived – the Sun Devil Way – is something we teach our team about every day,” head coach Todd Graham said. “Now the final thing they will see before taking the field is the embodiment of everything he stood for – and everything we hope to emulate and accomplish.”
