The Sun Devil men's golf team is in a tie for fifth with Oregon after the first 36 holes in Bremerton, Wash., at the 15-team Kikkor Invitational. Sophomore Alberto Sanchez matched his collegiate career-low with a 4-under 68 in the second round and is tied for third.
Sanchez (73-68=141) is three shots behind Washington's Cheng-Tsung Pan, who is at 6-under 138 (68-70).
Sanchez also fired rounds of 68 last year at the Pac-12 Preview and at the Arizona Intercollegiate, both in the second round. He had six birdies in the second round. ASU shot 291-289 for 4-over 580, as host Washington is at 11-under 565 (279-286).
Sophomore Austin Quick is tied for 19th at 1-over 145 (72-73), junior Mathias Schjoelberg is at 3-over 147 (72-75) and Jon Rahm is at 4-over 148 (75-73). Freshman Ki Taek Lee shot a 5-over 149 (74-75) in his first collegiate event.
Sun Devils playing in the individual tournament held at the Cascade Course include freshman Blake Cannon, who is tied for fourth at even-142 (72-70). Freshman Nicolo Galletti is tied for 16th at 4-over 146 (70-76) and junior college transfer Broc Johnson is tied for 25th at 7-over 149 (74-75).
Both tournaments conclude tomorrow with 18 holes. ASU will play with Oregon and Oregon State and its quintet will start play at 8:15 with Sanchez teeing off at 8:51.
