TEMPE, Ariz. —The No. 15 ranked Arizona State volleyball team swept the Oregon State Beavers in a quick three sets (25-19, 25-8, 25-14) on Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. The sweep is the 13th of the season for the Sun Devil squad, which improves the Devil’s overall record to 13-2, with a conference record of 2-1.

Macey Gardner led the way for the Sun Devils with 12 kills, while teammate McKenzie Willey followed with 11 kills.  BreElle Bailey and Mercedes Binns likewise had six and five kills respectively.  Blocks can’t be forgotten though—with 11 for the entire Sun Devil squad.

Tonight marked the sixth double-double for Bianca Arellano, with 31 assists and 10 digs. Her solid play throughout the match led to an easy Sun Devil victory.

The first set was a close one between Oregon State (9-5) and Arizona State (13-2), but the Sun Devils ultimately pulled away after 3 tie scores and 2 lead changes. This was mainly due to the help of a combined 12 kills from Gardner, Willey, and Bailey.  McKenzie Willey’s fourth kill ended the first set 25-19.

For the second set, the Sun Devils were able to contain the Beavers from the start. After an early lead for the Devils, the Beavers could never make a comeback and Arizona State led the entire second set. Following a 14-1 run by ASU, the Devils were up 22-6 and the set was all but over. The Sun Devils ended the second set by only allowing the Beavers 8 points, the fewest allowed in a set by ASU all season.

Similarly, the Sun Devils controlled the entire third and final set, not relinquishing the lead once.  Willey’s strong third set with six kills in ten attempts helped push the Sun Devils to victory. Arizona State’s monster attacks and big blocks all game were just too much for Oregon State to handle. The Devils concluded the third set up 25-14, to end the game in 1 hour and 21 minutes. Over 1,500 people attended Friday night’s game, many donning pink in support of Sun Devil Volleyball’s Pink Game.

Sunday, Arizona State faces off with No. 21 Oregon at 3:00 p.m. in Wells Fargo Arena. The match between the Ducks and the Sun Devils will be broadcasted on Pac-12 Networks.
