The ASU men's golf team competes in the 2013 Bill Cullum Invitational Oct. 21-22 at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif. (par 72/6,819 yards), and hopes to continue the momentum this fall, as it is now 39-5-1 in head-to-head competition that includes second-place finishes at the Kikkor Invitational in Seattle and the Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque. In both of those tournaments, ASU was behind only the host school in the final results. ASU is 39-2-1 against non-host schools so far.

ASU's lineup will consist of sophomores Jon Rahm and Alberto Sanchez, junior Broc Johnson, freshman Nicolo Galletti and junior Austin Quick. The 108 players will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

The tournament has been played every year since 1996 and Sun Devils have had good success in this event. Rahm shot 12-under 204 last year (72-65-67) to win the tournament, while Spencer Fletcher won the event in 2011 with an 8-under 208 (68-72-68). ASU tied with Long Beach for the team title in 2011. Back in 2008, Tristan Bierenbroodsot shot a 10-under 206 (66-67-71) to win the event.

The field includes CSU Bakersfield, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Gonzaga, Hawai’i, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, Sacramento State, San Diego, Seattle, South Dakota State, Southern Utah, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State and host Cal State Northridge. Live Scoring of the 2013 Cullum Invitational will be available on Golfstat.com. Results will also be posted on the official website of Cal State Northridge athletics, www.GoMatadors.com at the conclusion of the first day and at the conclusion of the tournament.

ASU will finish its fall schedule at the Hawaii Kauai Invitational Nov. 4-6 and then will open its spring schedule in Waikoloa, Hawaii, Feb. 4-6, at the Amer Ari Intercollegiate.

QUICK NOTES...
--Jon Rahm has played 55 rounds in his 18-tournament career and has had his score count 54 times. He has shot par or better in 29 rounds and has 18 rounds in the 60s.

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: The 18-year old tournament recently changed its name to the "The Cullum Invitational" after the legendary Northridge men's golf coach. In previous years, the tournament has been called "The Countrywide Invitational" and in 2006 was renamed "The Bill Cullum/Countrywide Invitational". This years field features 20 teams who will battle the Wood Ranch course which is par 72 and 6,819 yards.

EAGLE UPDATE: Jon Rahm’s nine eagles last year was tied for the best mark in the nation with Xander Schauffele of San Diego State. That also was the most by a Sun Devil in the past 20 seasons, topping Paul Casey’s eight eagles in his freshman season of 1997-98. Jon had three of them in the Tucker Invitational in late September and posted one in the first round of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, bringing his career total to 13. Since Golfstat began tracking in 1993-94, only four Sun Devils have more career eagles than Jon Rahm.
