TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University placekicker Zane Gonzalez was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week, according an announcement by the Pac-12 on Monday.
Gonzalez, a freshman from Deer Park, Texas, set a career-high for field goals, going 4-for-4 in ASU’s 53-24 win over No. 20 Washington on Saturday. Gonzalez, who accounted for 17 points in the game, has connected on 11-straight field goal attempts and is 15-of-18 on the season.
Gonzalez leads the Pac-12 and is second in the nation in field goals per games (2.1). He is also third in the Pac-12 and fifth in the nation in points per game (11.4).
Gonzalez is the second Sun Devil to earn Pac-12 Player of the Week honors this season. Last month senior safety Alden Darby was named the Pac-12’s Defensive Player of the Week following his performance in ASU’s 62-41 win over USC.
The Sun Devils (5-2, 3-1 Pac-12) have a bye this week before returning to action next Thursday night (Oct. 31, 7:30 p.m. PT) when they travel to Pullman, Wash., to take on Washington State. The game can be seen live on ESPN.
