TEMPE -- Former Arizona State football coach Bob Owens passed away due to complications from cancer on Nov. 4. He was 77.
Owens was named interim head coach of the Sun Devils in October of 1979 following head coach Frank Kush’s dismissal from the program. Owens led ASU for their final seven games that season before becoming an assistant at UNLV from 1982-84.
Returning to his alma mater, Pasadena Community College in 1991, Owens served as an assistant football coach for 10 seasons before becoming an instructor in the Kinesiology, Health & Athletics division.
A member of the U.S. National Triathlon team in the 70s-and-over division, Owens retired from PCC after 21 years of service in June of 2011.
