During this year’s spring football game, coach Todd Graham let two Sun Devil students call plays.

Now, the entire student body made the call for what uniform combination the Sun Devils will wear during Saturday’s clash versus Oregon State.

“It’s important that the students know that they are appreciated and as part of being appreciated, we gave them the opportunity to pick one of the uniforms,” Associate Athletic Director Bill Kennedy said.

This was the second consecutive season students selected a Sun Devil uniform combination, following last year’s homecoming game against UCLA.

The three combinations for Saturday’s game were black/black/gold, gold/maroon/gold and maroon/maroon/white.

All students had to do was visit here, enter an Email address and select a favorite uniform combination.

The voting, which ended last Friday, saw the maroon/maroon/white combination pull out the victory.

It’s similar to the combination the Sun Devils wore the last time they faced the Beavers at Sun Devil Stadium in 2011.

The Sun Devils wore a white/maroon/white combination enroute to a 35-20 victory.

The Sun Devils are 5-0 this season at home, so Kennedy said incorporating a student vote was the least they could do.

“We like that we create a tremendous homefield advantage and that as the Inferno saying ‘All abandon hope ye who enter here’ is actually true when teams come and play here.”

Kennedy continued he thinks this generation of students is really buying into the tradition of Sun Devil football and the attendance numbers back it up.

The 63-42 victory over USC saw student ticket sales break 14,000 for the first time in school history.

The Sun Devils (7-2, 5-1 Pac-12) game Saturday will be the first home game since Oct. 19th and a win would push them one step closer to a Pac-12 title and undefeated home record.

Kennedy hopes to see all the students who voted and many more at Sun Devil Stadium come 7:30 p.m. Saturday and has a message for students on the fence about attending.

“The message would be that they are missing a great time and they’re missing a special moment in time,” Kennedy said. “We hope (student uniforms votes) happen more frequently and we’d like it to happen every year, but it doesn’t, so when you get the opportunity to do that, you don’t want to miss it because it’s something you will remember forever.”
