Football Signs Top Prospect Calhoun In New Fall Period

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University football program has signed highly touted linebacker prospect D.J. Calhoun to an Institutional Financial Aid Agreement, becoming one of the first programs in college football to take advantage of new NCAA interpretation.  

The new NCAA interpretation permits high school seniors who are on schedule to graduate at mid-year and who plan to enroll in college for the spring semester, the opportunity to sign an Institutional Financial Aid Agreement.

Calhoun will enroll at ASU in January and will take part in spring practice with the Sun Devils.

“D.J. is not only a versatile and physical linebacker, but he is a young man with great character, discipline, class and integrity,” head coach Todd Graham said. “We’re looking forward to having him on campus in the spring and are excited about what he will bring to this team for years to come.”

Calhoun attends El Cerrito High School in El Cerrito, Calif., and is regarded as one of the toughest, most athletic tacklers in the West, and excels equally in run support and dropping into coverage.

The 2012 Defensive Player of Year in the Tri-County League and unanimous First-Team All-League selection, Calhoun is considered a four-star prospect by, ESPN, and 24-7 Sports, including the No. 9 outside linebacker prospect in the country by, No. 10 by and No. 15 by

Calhoun, at 6-1, 205 pounds, also earned First-Team All-East Bay honors, All-Metro recognition by the San Francisco Chronicle and Second-Team All-Northern California by CalHiSports in 2012. He is slated to participate in the 2014 U.S. Army All-American Game on Jan. 4, 2014, at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
