Jahii Carson battled a bum ankle in front of 18 NBA scouts to the tune of 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists in leading Arizona State to a 78-56 win at DePaul on Friday night.

“He really didn’t do anything all week until yesterday,” coach Herb Sendek said. “He made it part way through practice and decided he was going to give it a go.”

Jermaine Marshall added 20 points and Shaquielle McKissic had a double-double (14 points and 12 rebounds) off the bench as ASU moved to 8-2 on the year. Jordan Bachynski had eight blocks as ASU shot 27-of-53 (.509) from the field, including 16-of-26 (.615) in the second half.

ASU led by as many as nine in the first half as Jahii had 13 points and six boards in the first 20 minutes. ASU led 28-25 at the break. The game stayed close as ASU led 39-34 with 15:43 left, but DePaul did not score again for more than six minutes.

Jermaine Marshall scored 10 points in a 17-2 run and had consecutive 3-pointers and Jonathan Gilling drained one from beyond the arc as ASU led by 20.

ASU will host Grambling next Saturday (Dec. 14) at noon MT.

--ASU is averaging 78.4 points in its 8-2 start.
