Swimming Caps Off Successful Weekend at AT&T Winter Nationals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.—The Arizona State swimming program capped off a successful weekend at the USA Swimming AT&T Winter Nationals, en route to a new program record, top scores in school history and NCAA qualifying times, Saturday, in Knoxville, Tenn. The Sun Devils send a total of 12 athletes to the USA Swimming winter event.

Senior Tristin Baxter, known for her prowess in distance swimming, set the new program record in the 500 free, Wednesday, with a time of 4:41.08. Breaking the previous record set by Cassie Morrice in 2011, Baxter finished ninth in the nation in the event.

Baxter also finished sixth, nationally, in the 1650 free, swimming the hallmark distance event in a time of 16:09.76. The senior recorded a seven-second faster time in the prelims swimming the event in 16:02.86.

Breaking two of his own records he set last season, Alex Coci once again swam an ASU-best time in the 100 and 200 fly events. The Romanian fly specialist, finished third in the nation in both events, while also swimming personal best in the 100 fly with a time of 46.41. Coci swam the 200 fly in a new ASU record time of 1:43.27.

Freshman Richard Bohus also swam strong for the Sun Devils and nearly set a school record in the 100 back with a time of 47.75. Bohus name is still at the top of the record book for the Sun Devils with the second-best time in school history.
