Throughout the year, we'll be profiling members of the Spirit Squad and Band. This week, Senior Jessica Cooper.
4th year on squad
Q: What got you into dance?
A: A family friend told my mom to put me in it when I was about three years old and then my parents would always try to put me in other things like T-ball and soccer and I would literally twirl in the outfield and pick flower and didn't want anything but dance.
Q: What's your favorite sport to cheer for?
A: Well, my boyfriend is on the basketball team, so basketball, but I also really do love football. Those would be my two favorites.
Q: Did you two meet through Spirit Squad/Basketball?
A: We actually met in high school, he just happened to make the ASU basketball team, I just happened to make the ASU dance team.
Q: What made you choose ASU?
A:I grew up here, I went to Corona (Del Sol High School) so this has just always been my home team. Plus I knew the dance team was really good. So how could I not go here?
Q: What's the game you're most looking forward to this year?
A: Definitely the Notre Dame Game. I'm so excited just to A- cheer in that stadium and B-I think it's going to be like the best game.
Q: What was your first game with the Spirit Squad like?
A:I remember running out for pregame and just from cheering at high school games going to college games, there's just a significant amount more fans, and when the National Anthem plays your mouth starts to quiver and you're just staring at all the fans, and you're just like, "Oh my God this is real," and the fireworks go off and it's just the greatest feeling ever.
Q: What do you like to do when you're not busy with Spirit Squad?
A: Well, Nursing takes up a lot of time, I have class at 6:30 or 7:30 Monday through Friday and I do clinicals at the hospital, which is like a full time job, and I work at a restaurant called "The Keg" so I'm really busy but when I can I just like to hang out with my friends and my teammates.
Q: When you're done with ASU, do you think you'll come back to the games as a fan?
A: Hopefully, yes. I want to stay here for two years, so I'll come back then but I eventually want to move to either Colorado or California to become a nurse practitioner.
Q: Who is someone that you admire?
A: My mom. She has taught me everything and I don't think I would be who I am without her in my life.
Q: Would you rather read the book or watch the movie?
A: Since I don't have much time, the movie, but the book is always better!
