TEMPE, Ariz. – Arizona State University soccer players Jasmine Roth (second team) and Kaitlyn Pavlovich (third team) were both named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America Women’s Soccer Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Both starting defenders on the Sun Devils’ back line the last four seasons, Roth (Biochemistry) and Pavlovich (Elementary Education) both maintain a perfect 4.0 GPA.

In addition to the aforementioned Academic All-America honors, both players were also selected to 2013 NSCAA University Division Women's Scholar All-West Region Team – Pavlovich (second team), Roth (honorable mention).

Last month, Roth and Pavlovich distinguished themselves in being named to the Pac-12’s All-Academic First Team for the third time in each of their respective careers, the maximum number possible for a student-athlete.

Roth, who earlier this month was named the Pac-12’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year, started 76 out of 78 career games from 2010-13. She was instrumental in helping ASU reach the NCAA tournament two of her four years on campus. In 2012 she was named the team’s defensive MVP.

Pavlovich concluded her 57-game Sun Devil career (50 starts), by starting all 19 games in 2013. She recorded career highs in goals (3) and points this season (6). Pavlovich, who was named to the 2013 NSCAA All-Pacific Region Second Team earlier this month, earned CS360 Primetime Performers Weekly Honor Roll kudos after scoring a goal in ASU’s 2-2 tie vs. Colorado (Nov. 1) and its 2-1 double-overtime win vs. Utah (Nov. 3).

Both Roth and Pavlovich were key contributors this season on a Sun Devil back line that posted the team’s best goals against average (1.31) since the 2009 squad that gave up 1.20 goals per game. The Sun Devils allowed one or fewer goals 12 times in 2013, including seven shutouts. Among the seven shutouts was ASU’s historic 1-0 win at (then) unbeaten and second-ranked Stanford on Oct. 6, which ended the Cardinal’s 73-game unbeaten streak at home and its 44-game winning streak in conference games.
