OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--Arizona State university senior safety Alden Darby has been selected as a 2013 Senior CLASS Award® Second-team All-American for the NCAA® Division I Football Bowl Subdivision.  He is the only Pac-12 Conference player selected to the 2013 Senior CLASS Award team.

The team, chosen by a nationwide vote of Division I FBS football coaches, national football media and fans, is given annually to the most outstanding senior student-athlete in Division I football. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence -- classroom, community, character and competition.  John Urschel of Penn State University was the Senior CLASS Award winner for 2013.

An All-Pac-12 First Team selection in 2013, Darby recorded four interceptions on the year, including two against USC and one returned for a touchdown. Darby also added 66 tackles, including 12 pass deflections, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

A four-year Sun Devil who has played in 49 games, Darby has 211 career tackles, 10 career interceptions for 253 return yards and two touchdowns, and 25 pass deflections.

Darby is heavily involved in the Scholar Baller leadership and outreach program, where he helps develop curriculum, deliver, teach and mentor students at South Mountain High School, Academy of Excellence and Cesar Chavez High School teaching them about developing championship character, creating a strong sense of self and becoming a great leader.  He also was a quarterfinalist for the Lott Impact Trophy, is presented annually to the student-athlete who exhibits maturity, performance, academics, community and tenacity.

He was named the Keynote Speaker at the 13th annual East Valley Pursuing Victory with Honor Leadership Summit. The keynote speaker is chosen each year as someone who positively influences the leaders of tomorrow.

A team captain, Darby was the first Sun Devil to earn the privilege of wearing the Pat Tillman Practice Jersey, which head coach Todd Graham awards to those who embody the positive characteristics of the football program and university. He has been instrumental in influencing his teammates and other student-athletes to become more involved in the community and routinely leads a contingent of student-athletes in community service and outreach events.
