TEMPE – The Arizona State University softball program will provide a sneak peak of the season this weekend as the squad will host a Media Day event on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Farrington Stadium in Tempe. The event will include a Home Run Derby that will feature eight members of the team.
The event will provide fans and local media an opportunity to get the know the 2014 Sun Devil roster, currently ranked No. 7 in the preseason polls, as well as first-year head coach Craig Nicholson.
Saturday’s event will begin with an open practice at 10 a.m., followed by a Home Run Derby at approximately 11:45 a.m., and concluding with Media Day function at 1 p.m.
Players from the Sun Devil roster will be made available to the media following the conclusion of the Home Run Derby.
The Home Run Derby will provide those in attendance a chance to witness something they won’t be able to see at any school in the nation – three All-American teammates duking it out against each other in a friendly competition. Seniors Cheyenne Coyle and Alix Johnson, as well as junior and defending Pac-12 Player of the Year Amber Freeman will highlight the lineup. The trio, along with senior pitcher Dallas Escobedo, make Arizona State the only program in the nation with four returning All-Americans this season.
The Home Run Derby will also feature All-Pac-12 standout juniors Haley Steele and Bethany Kemp, sophomore Katee Aguirre and newcomers Margaret Stahm and Chelsea Gonzales. The event will follow a similar format to that used in the MLB Home Run Derby during the All-Star Break each season.
Admission is open to the public free of charge. Representatives from the Sun Devil Club and Sun Devil Ticket Sales departments will be in attendance for any fans with questions regarding tickets and donations to the Sun Devil program.
Media interested in attending should contact ASU Softball sports information director Jeremy Hawkes for more information at at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 480-965-9544.
There are many ticket options available for the 2014 season. The best value season tickets start at just $99 and ensure your seat for all 39 home games. The Sun Devil season will begin Feb. 6 as the team takes on Creighton at 5 p.m. MT to open the Kajikawa Classic.
