PALOS VERDES, Calif.—The seventh-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team returns to action for the spring season at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, hosted by Ohio State, in Palos Verdes, Calif.

Held Feb. 9-11, the 54-hole tournament will be played at the par-71, 6,017-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club.  The field for the tournament features 16 teams, including Arizona State, Arizona, UCLA, USC, and Washington from the Pac-12.

The Sun Devils finished the 2013 fall season strong with four top-five finishes out of the five tournaments in which the team competed.  Finishing second at the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship, ASU topped nine teams ranked in the nation’s top-25.  The Sun Devils also cruised to a second-place finish at the 40th Annual Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, where ASU separated itself from the field finishing 11 strokes ahead of the third-place team.

Junior second-team All-American Noemi Jimenez sits atop the Sun Devil lineup.  Jimenez holds a 71.33 scoring average through five tournaments and has finished in the top-10 in four out of five tournaments competed, including tying for second at the season-opening Dale McNamara Invitational.

The Sun Devil lineup also features junior Emilie Alonso, senior Justine Lee, freshman Monica Vaughn, and freshman Saki Iida.  Vaughn has emerged as a fledgling contender for ASU, recording two, top-10 finishes in the last two tournaments, including tying for third place at the Pac-12 Preview at Nanea.  Iida will be representing the maroon and gold for the first time when she steps onto the course this weekend.

Last year, the Sun Devils finished in 12th place at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge.  Jimenez tied for ninth place overall, shooting 7-over 220 (76-73-71) for the tournament.
