FEDERAL WAY, Wash.—The Arizona State men’s swimming squad continues to gain ground on the competition, and with one day remaining at Pac-12 Championships they sit just four points out of fifth place behind Utah. The Sun Devils have accumulated a total of 192 points thus far, much in part due to strong teamwork and consistency in the relays, as well as impressive performances from seniors all the way down to freshman.

For the second-straight evening the ASU relay team finished in fourth, this time in the 400 medley relay. The four-member team consisting of Richard Bohus, Thibaut Capitaine, Alex Coci and Tadas Duskinas touched in with a school-record time of 3:10.66, an NCAA B-cut mark, almost six seconds ahead of fifth place.

Also finishing fourth was Coci in the 100 butterfly A-Final. Coci, a senior, swam a time of 46.50, a B-cut result, missing out on a second place finish by less than half a second. He barely missed the third-place position by .08 of a second, and was only .58 of a second behind the leader at the race’s conclusion. Coci has another chance at taking home a Pac-12 title on Saturday, this time in the 200 butterfly.

Only a freshman, Bohus attempted his best Coci impression and brought home a ninth place finish in the B-Final of the 100 back. Bohus made a statement as the frontrunner to replace his graduating teammate at season’s end, coming in with a program record and B-cut time of 47.16, which would have put him in sixth place in the A-Final.

In the 100 breast, sophomore Capitaine earned himself a 15th place result as he swam a time of 54.57, a B-cut time and just .01 seconds away from cracking the top 14.

On Thursday it was Zac Dalby and Kyle Sockwell who finished one right after another, but Sockwell bested his teammate Friday, this time in the 400 IM. Sockwell, also a sophomore, notched a 17th place finish with a time of 3:52.87, he too with a B-cut performance. Dalby, a junior, completed his swim in 22nd with a time of 3:57.41.

The Sun Devils have one more opportunity to crack the top five on Saturday, as the final day of Pac-12 Championships will see a plethora of Finals events take place. Starting at 6:00 p.m. PT, the events will include the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free.
