INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The 24th-ranked Arizona State women’s gymnastics team earned the No. 4 seed in the Fayetteville Regional, hosted by Arkansas, on Apr. 5 at 4 p.m. CT/2 p.m. PT in Barnhill Arena, the NCAA announced today.
ASU will join newly crowned Pac-12 Champion Utah, who earned the No. 1 seed in the region, and fellow conference competitor and second-seed UCLA. Regional host Arkansas earned the third seed with Utah State and UC Davis rounding out spots five and six, respectively.
The NCAA office conducted a draw to determine the rotation order for the competition, which follows: No. 3 Arkansas on vault, No. 1 Utah BYE, No. 5 Utah State on bars, No. 6 UC Davis on beam, No. 2 UCLA BYE, and No. 4 Arizona State on floor.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Birmingham, Ala., April 18-20, hosted by the University of Alabama and the Alabama Sports Foundation. The top two teams from the University Park, Fayetteville and Seattle regionals will compete in one of the semifinals, and the top two teams from the Minneapolis, Athens and Baton Rouge regionals will compete in the other semifinal.
In addition, the event winners at each regional site will advance to the national championships (in that event only) if they are not part of a qualifying team or an all-around qualifier.
This is the Sun Devils’ 33rd NCAA Regional appearance under head coach John Spini. Spini announced his retirement following the 2014 season in January after 34 years at Arizona State.
