TEMPE – The Arizona State University track and field teams got the 2013 outdoor track and field season underway on Friday with the completion of a couple events at the Baldy Castillo Invitational at Sun Angel Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.
The highlight of the day came in the men’s hammer throw as redshirt senior Joe Riccio set the sixth-best mark in school history with his toss of 62.41m (204-09) on his sixth and final attempt.
Riccio finished fourth overall in the competition, as he became the first Sun Devil of 2013 to set a mark that moved into the top-10 all-time at ASU.

In the women’s 1,500-meter dash, Payton Schutte had a strong wrong for the Sun Devils as she clocked a time of 4:32.04 in her season opener for a huge personal best and a fourth-place finish overall.
