SUN ANGEL RESULTS
TEMPE, Ariz.—The Arizona State track and field teams opened the collegiate portion of the 35th Sun Angel Track Classic with a trio of personal bests on Friday at Sun Angel Stadium.
Redshirt freshman Ashley Weber took sixth in the open women’s hammer with a throw of 51.61m (169-04), while sophomore Ginger Jarchow took 11th with a new personal best at 49.74m (163-02).
In the men’s open hammer, redshirt junior Kyle Lillie took second at 57.68m (189-03), a new personal best, while redshirt junior Ryan Leslie took fifth at 56.31m (184-04), and redshirt freshman Kyle Long finished in 10th at 52.84m (173-04), also a new personal best.
On the women’s side of the premiere hammer throw, junior Jessika Byrd took fourth with a throw of 57.67m (189-02).
Junior Macy Bricks took second in the women’s 5000m run at 17:39.89, while fellow junior Shaina Corbin took fourth at 17:55.58, the duo combining for 12 team points for ASU.
Though their results didn’t count, a trio of unattached Sun Devil freshmen swept the 5000m, led by Miranda Kewley’s 17:20.15, followed by Chiara Warner at 17:26.43, and Jenna Maack at 17:28.03.
A group of Sun Devils also competed at the Mesa Track and Field Classic on Friday.
Redshirt senior Nathan Estes took sixth in the open discus at 43.97m (144-03), while redshirt senior Anna Jelmini took fourth in the women’s invitational discus at 55.49m (182-01). In the women’s shot put invitational section, redshirt junior Alex Hartig took second at 15.78m (51-9.25), a new personal best.
Redshirt senior Chris Manuele took seventh in the pole vault invitational, clearing 4.60m (15-1.00).
Byrd and Jarchow each threw at the Mesa meet in the hammer, with Byrd taking sixth at 58.19m (190-11) and Jarchow taking 12th at 49.65m (162-11). Leslie took third in the men’s hammer invitational at 56.44m (185-02) and Lillie took fourth at 55.85m (183-03).
The Sun Angel Track Classic concludes on Saturday at Sun Angel Stadium, the first events of the day beginning at 10 a.m. MST.
