TEMPE, Ariz. – Nine Arizona State University baseball student-athletes have been named to Pac-12 Conference All-Academic teams, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday.

Sophomores Ryan Burr and Dalton DiNatale were both selected Second-Team All-Academic, and seven others earned honorable mention recognition, including senior Cory Hahn, junior Darin Gillies, and sophomores Jordan Aboites, Chris Beall, Ryan Kellogg, Brett Lilek and RJ Ybarra.

ASU’s nine all-academic honorees are the most for the program in the past 15 seasons and are second most in the conference this year.

This is the 18th consecutive season that Arizona State has had at least two members on conference All-Academic Teams. To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.

Burr, a right-handed relief pitcher from Highlands Ranch, Colo., carries a 3.44 cumulative GPA and is studying criminal justice. He led the team with 12 saves this season and held opponents to a .149 batting average, and joins former Sun Devil Dustin Pedroia as the only two players in school history to be named to the USA Collegiate National Team in consecutive years. DiNatale, a native of Parkland, Fla., holds a 3.42 cumulative GPA and is a communications major. He started 51 games this season and notched a .294 batting average with 36 runs batted in and 29 runs scored.

Hahn, a native of Corona, Calif., is a student coach and former outfielder, and graduated in May 2014 from the W.P. Carey School of Business with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Business Communication.

Gillies, a right-handed starting pitcher and native of Hollister, Calif., is a criminal justice major and earned his second consecutive Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention selection. He started 14 games this season and was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week in May.

Beall, an outfielder from Phoenix, Ariz., is a business management major and batted .305 in 37 games this season. Ybarra, a designated hitter and catcher from Riverside, Calif., was this season’s Casey Myers Academic Award winner and is a communication and sociology major. He started 50 games and drove in a team-high 47 RBI.

Aboites, a shortstop and right-handed relief pitcher, is a communication major from Long Beach, Calif. He made a team-high 30 appearances out of the bullpen and held a 3.30 ERA in 43 2/3 innings. Kellogg, a management major, is a left-handed starting pitcher and native of Whitby, Ontario. He earned All-Pac-12 honors for the second consecutive season after he led the team with eight wins and 103 innings pitched. Lilek, a left-handed starting pitcher and a native of South Holland, Ill., is a communications major and led the team with 79 strikeouts and a 2.68 ERA in 15 starts.

Head coach Tim Esmay has had 29 Pac-12 All-Academic recipients in his five seasons at the helm in Tempe, including nine in 2014, six in 2013, five in 2012, six in 2011 and three in 2010.

Twenty-six current baseball student-athletes have earned Scholar Baller® recognition in at least one of the past four semesters, which honors those who achieved a 3.0 GPA or made outstanding academic improvement.

Five Sun Devil baseball players, including four on the current team and current Colorado Rockies minor leaguer Michael Benjamin, earned degrees in the 2013-14 school year. A total of 14 Sun Devils have graduated in the past two academic years, including five after their collegiate playing days were over.
