Several Sun Devil student-athletes teamed up with organizations in the Phoenix area to help give back to the communitzon Friday, Nov. 30.
The morning kicked off early at Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport for A Fantasy Flight, an event that takes place during the holidays in several United Airlines cities to help make a Christmas wish come true for children. Each participating city chooses a deserving group of children to take part in the event. The kids board a designated plane headed for the "North Pole," then return to a different gate covered in fake snow. Nearly 50 Sun Devil student-athletes walked the kids through “Santa’s Winter Wonderland” and joined the participants in several themed activities such as making ornaments, decorating cookies, face painting and getting their pictures taken with Santa. Gift bags, which include toys, blankets, cold weather clothes and accessories, as well as toiletry needs were also provided to the children in attendance.
Friday marked the ninth consecutive year Sun Devil student-athletes have volunteered at this charitable event to help provide deserving children with a once in a lifetime experience.
Later in the morning, Sun Devil Athletics staff and student-athletes gathered on the north side of Sun Devil Stadium to help assemble food baskets. This event alone feeds approximately 1,700 families in the community.
Coors Light annually helps provide holiday meals to hundreds of Phoenix families in need with the help of Food City, Foundation for Parkinson's and Neurological Research, Chicanos Por la Causa and Crescent Crown Distributing.
Sun Devil student-athletes are representing the pride of maroon and gold not only in athletics and academics, but also through positively impacting the community during this holiday season.
