TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Athletics introduces the next phase of its external communications plan with the launch of IAmASunDevil.com, designed to give fans an unparalleled digital experience.
The ASU marketing department and Sun Devil Athletics partnered to create compelling image-driven, video-laden pages that utilize social media integration and responsive design. IAmASunDevil.com is the latest step in bringing exclusive, fan-friendly content to Sun Devil Nation.
“IAmASunDevil.com will be a great tool for us as we continue to build affinity, across the state and around the nation, for Sun Devil Athletics and Arizona State University as whole,” Vice President for University Athletics Steve Patterson said. “We have a great athletics department, a top-tier university, in a thriving metropolitan area. This website is just one more way to project that to the world.”
While TheSunDevils.com will remain the home for breaking news, featured content, and ticket and schedule information, IAmASunDevil.com is intended to enhance and grow TheSunDevils.com and is a site for learning about what makes Arizona State University a high-performing athletics department and one of the nation’s top public universities.
IAmASunDevil.com offers a detailed look at each sport that emphasizes everything from on-field accomplishments and academic achievements to gameday traditions and facilities. The University is also highlighted on the site, including University President Michael Crow’s commitment to academic excellence, inclusiveness and societal impact.
In addition, an overview of the ASU student experience is outlined on the new site, from career options and community service opportunities to entertainment and life in the Valley of the Sun.
“Strengthening our digital presence and increasing fan interaction have been top priorities for Sun Devil Athletics, and this site combines both goals into a unique package that highlights the best of what SDA has to offer,” Senior Associate AD for External Relations Rocky Harris said. “Whether it’s our outstanding coaching staffs and student-athletes, the rich tradition of these programs or our success on the field, in the classroom and around the community, the new site encapsulates why 73,000 people call ASU their school and will only enhance our current digital offerings.”
Over the past year, Sun Devil Athletics has set forth a number of initiatives designed to make digital communication a priority.
Patterson has made building and sustaining relationships with our constituents, especially our loyal fans, a top priority since he was named to his current position in March 2012. Patterson began this process in July 2012 when he created the external relations department within SDA, which was formed to build consistency in outreach efforts to donors, fans, media, former letter-winners, sponsors, and the community at large.
The next step was the addition of a number of communications positions, including a Digital Media and Communications Manager, a Social Media Coordinator and a Director of Database Marketing and Analytics, as well as a dedicated sales and customer service staff of 30. SDA also partnered with the Disney Institute to overhaul the customer experience and improve the organizational culture.
SDA made another stride with its recent re-launch of thesundevils.com, which put an emphasis on mobile, social and video. The new website, powered by the NeuLion College Platform, boosted SDA’s regional and national scope as it became part of the Pac-12’s new unified digital network.
