TEMPE, Ariz. - The 12th-ranked Arizona State women's tennis team swept rival Arizona, 9-0, today at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center in Tucson.
The Sun Devils (4-2; 1-2 Pac-10) dropped only one set to the Wildcats. Katy Propstra lost the first set of her match, but battled back to defeat Joanna Buczkowska, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Propstra improved her record to 13-5 with the victory. Playing in the No. 1 position, freshman Allison Bradshaw recorded her 17th victory of the season defeating Monique Allegre, 6-0, 6-2. In the No. 2 position, Karin Palme defeated Lindsay Blau 6-3, 6-3, while in the No. 4 position, Kerry Giardino downed Michelle Gough 7-6, 6-1. Rounding out singles play, Alison Nash and Faye DeVera each won in straight sets as well, 7-6, 6-1, and 6-2, 6-3, respectively. As a team, ASU is 31-8 in dual match singles play this season.
ASU finished the sweep taking all three doubles matches for the Wildcats. No. 28 Bradshaw and Propstra handled Allegre and Blau, 8-2 while the No. 3 doubles pair of DeVera and Palme beat Laresa Marino and Stringer, 8-1. The No. 2 doubles match was a bit closer with the Sun Devils' Nash and McCoury squeaking out the win, 9-7, over Abel and Gough.
