SEATTLE- Third baseman Ryan Lentz blasted a three-run home run with two out in the bottom of the ninth to lead the No. 19 Washington baseball team to a 7-6 win over No. 16 Arizona State Saturday at Husky Ballpark. The win was the Huskies' second in the three-game series with ASU, which concludes Sunday.
Washington improved to 16-6 on the year while ASU fell to 20-14.
Lentz, a junior from Woodinville, hit the home run off of reliever Chuck Crumpton (2-2), who took the loss. The homer was the second of the for Lentz, who also led off the eighth inning with a home run.
ASU took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning and led the rest of the way until Lentz' homer. Richy Leon and Casey Meyers each recorded two doubles for ASU and Devils starter Ryan Mills allowed only two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six in seven innings.
Down 6-2, Lentz and first baseman Ed Erickson led off the eighth with back-to-back home runs off of Crumpton, who had just come into the game. UW freshman reliever Matt Massingale (2-0) earned the victory. The righty threw the final inning and one-third, allowing no runs on one hit and two Ks.
