As the 2007 Pacific-10 Conference Diving Championships came to a close Sunday, Arizona State University redshirt freshman Micky Benedetti continued to shine among the conference's elite, becoming the first in school history to capture the Pac-10 Conference Men's Platform Diving Championship.

After claiming the 3-meter championship the previous day, Benedetti returned Sunday to dominate the platform diving championships, scoring a finals round total of 394.90 points, defeating second-place finisher Michael Hilde of USC by more than 40 points.

"I dove pretty well," Benedetti said. "I was a little bit tired, the end of the weekend, after all these events...I dove well and I'm a happy with all the dives that I did."

With his first two dives totaling 156.5 points, the Rome, Italy native jumped out to an early lead. Benedetti's second dive alone was worth 80 points, while his third and fourth dives scored less than 60 points but he beat out his competition by performing two dives with high degrees of difficulty for his final two dives.

On his fifth dive, Benedetti performed a reverse three-and-a-half somersault (307C) from the ten-meter platform, which carries a 3.4 degree of difficulty. The dive earned Benedetti 66.80 points.

"It's a hard dive, but I'm practicing it a lot," Benedetti said. "I got six-point five and sevens on it so I'm happy about that."

For his impressive weekend, Benedetti was named the Pac-10 Men's Diver of the Meet, earning the pair of Pac-10 titles and placing fourth in Friday's 1-meter springboard championships.

The Sun Devil women also competed in the platform diving championships, as sophomore Erin Hobbs was ASU's top performer on the day, tallying a finals round score of 220.00 points, good for seventh place in the Pac-10.
