Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - Riccio Torrez went 4-for-5 to lead the No. 2 Arizona State University baseball team to an 11-5 win over San Francisco on Tuesday in front of 3,040 fans at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The Sun Devils improve to 34-5 on the season with the victory.

Torrez tied his career high with the four hits, including his seventh home run of the season. Kole Calhoun and Zack MacPhee also had their seventh home runs of the year, as the three remained tied for the team lead in that category. All nine Sun Devil starters had a hit, with MacPhee, Drew Maggi and Zach Wilson recording two hits apiece.

Mitchell Lambson got the win to improve to 4-2. He went three scoreless innings of relief, coming on in the fifth inning to replace starter Jimmy Patterson, who went four innings and allowed five hits and three runs (one earned) with six strikeouts.

Calhoun hit a solo homer to center in the first to put ASU on top, but the lead was short-lived as San Francisco scored two unearned runs in the second and then added another in the third to take a 3-1 lead.

However, the Sun Devils would answer with a four-run fourth inning. Matt Newman started the scoring with an RBI single, and then the Devils pushed across three more runs with two outs in the inning. Maggi tied the game when he beat out an infield single that scored Raoul Torrez, Newman then scored on a balk and MacPhee drove in Maggi with a bloop single to right.

An inning later, Austin Barnes came through with a two-out, three-run double to left center to put the Sun Devils in front 8-3. MacPhee's solo homer in the sixth and Maggi's RBI double in the seventh extended the lead to seven runs.

The Dons put two runs on the board in the eighth against Jake Barrett, but Riccio Torrez's solo homer in the bottom half of the inning capped off the scoring for the game. Jordan Swagerty pitched a scoreless ninth to finish off the win.

The Sun Devils will complete their two-game series with San Francisco on Wednesday, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
