TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State women's tennis team finished their first day of competition in Seattle, Washington at the seventh annual Pac-10 Indoor Tennis Tournament at the Lloyd Nordstrom Tennis Center. Four players advanced past their first round. In the first flight, sophomore Karin Palme defeated Monique Allegre of Arizona, 7-5, 6-2, but was defeated in the quarterfinals by Kristina Kraszewski of Washington, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Allison Bradshaw suffered a first round defeat to top seed Ditta Huber of USC, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.
In the second flight both seniors Katy Propstra and Alison Nash moved on. Propstra defeated Jennifer Heiser of Stanford, 6-2, 6-4 in the first round. Nash, after a first round bye, defeated Adeline Arnaud of Oregon, 6-2, 1-6, 6-3, in the quarterfinals.
Sophomore Faye DeVera earned a third flight first round victory defeating Andrea Petrovic of Oregon, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-1.
Scheduled to play in tomorrow's singles action: Flight 2 Quarterfinals - Kerry Giardino, the flight's top seed, vs Krissy Hamilton-Heinberg (USC), Katy Propstra vs Ilona Kordonskaya (Wash.) with the winner facing Alison Nash in the semifinals. Flight 3 Quarterfinals - Faye DeVera vs top seed Brandi Freudenberg (UCLA), Celena McCoury vs Melissa Pine (WSU).
