Coastal Carolina Eliminates UNLV From Tempe Regional, 14-10

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Coastal Carolina used a nine-run fourth inning to defeat UNLV 14-10 in an elimination game in the NCAA Tempe Regional Sunday afternoon at Packard Stadium.

The Chanticleers move on to face Arizona State in the regional championship game at 4 p.m. Sunday evening. CCU must defeat ASU twice in order to advance past the regionals.

UNLV and Coastal Carolina combined for 32 hits and 24 runs in the three-hour, 39-minute game under the Arizona sun.

Center fielder Dom Duggan, first baseman Mike Costanzo and second baseman Michael DeJesus each had three hits. Costanzo also hit his team-leading 16th home run and had three RBI. DeJesus drove in a team-high four runs.

The Rebels were led by four hits from sophomore first baseman Chris Bonnell. Bonnell went 4-for-6 with four RBI, including a three-run home run in the first inning.

Coastal Carolina relief pitcher Kevin Salmon earned the win allowing three hits and two runs in 2.1 innings. Costanzo closed out the victory giving up three hits and one run in two innings. Left-handed starter Jake Hurry scattered 12 hits and seven runs in 4.2 innings, but did not factor into the decision.

UNLV starter Koji Pupo gave up seven hits and eight runs in three innings to suffer his first loss of the year to fall to 5-1.

UNLV ended the season with a 35-29 record. Coastal Carolina recorded its school-record 50th win of the season.
