Haarlem, The Netherlands -- Arizona State freshman infielder Dustin Pedroia (Woodland, Calif.) will be leaving the 2002 USA Baseball National Team on Saturday, July 27, and returning to his home in California.

Pedroia was struck in the face by a bad-hop ground ball, with one out in the top of the ninth inning in last night's 4-1 USA victory over Cuba. Pedroia walked off the field under his own power, and was taken to a local hospital for x-rays. It was revealed there that Pedroia suffered a right infra orbital rim fracture, and can no longer play baseball this summer.

The Sun Devils' First Team All-Pac 10 shortstop actually drove in the run that put Team USA ahead in the game 2-1, with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. He ended up batting .208 (11-for-53) with two doubles and 10 RBI in 18 games for the 2002 USA Baseball National Team.
