TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State pitcher Jon Switzer struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings and allowed only one earned run out of the bullpen to lead Team USA to a 7-2 win over Taiwan Wednesday evening at Midway Stadium in St. Paul, Minn.

The win for Team USA was its seventh straight as the Red, White and Blue raised its season record to 14-3. Switzer came on in relief of starter Len Dinardo (Stetson) to earn the win and improve to 1-0 on the summer. The junior-to-be for Pat Murphy's Sun Devil squad allowed only three hits, one earned run and did not walk a batter.

Switzer (Houston, Texas), who tallied an impressive 11-3 record with a 3.89 ERA on the mound for the Pac-10 Champion Sun Devils in 2000, has been stellar with Team USA this summer, posting a 2.62 ERA in nine games and 17.2 combined innings. The lefty has struck out 23 batters over the course of the summer, while walking only two.

In his last three outings, Switzer has dropped his ERA nearly a full point, while striking out 14 and allowing only one earned run over that stretch.

Switzer, along with ASU standout catcher Casey Myers, will continue the 2000 Qwest Red, White and Blue Tour with seven more games in the States before embarking on a 10-day trip to The Netherlands for the Hankball Tournament. In the Honkball Tournament, Team USA is scheduled to duel against the Holland National Team that is coached by Murphy.
