TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 15 Arizona State baseball lost to Oklahoma 7-6 Saturday night at Packard Stadium in front of 3,019 fans.
ASU started Chuck Crumpton who went 6 1/3 innings giving up only three runs on seven hits with four walks and five strikeouts, but closer Chad Pennington took the loss after giving up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings pitched.
Oklahomas Nathan Sturdivant earned the win giving up no runs on no hits with two strikeouts.
The Sun Devils got an early lead putting three runs on the board in the first inning after rightfielder Andrew Beinbrink hit a home run over the left field wall. The home run scored shortstop Willie Bloomquist and leftfielder Jay Sitzman who had reached base on back-to-back walks.
Oklahoma would score one run in the fourth after catcher Ryan Van Horn singled in rightfielder Jeff Bajenaru. The Sun Devils would come back with two runs in the fifth, but the Sooners answered with one run in both the sixth and seventh.
In the eighth inning Oklahoma scored three runs to give them the lead. Designated hitter Richard Park walked to start off the inning and would score off of Van Horns homer to left field. The Sooners third run was scored after first baseman Casey Bookout was hit by a pitch by Pennington with the bases loaded.
Third baseman Brooks Conrad lead the Sun Devils going 2-for-4. Beinbrink was 1-for-2 with one run scored and four RBI.
Shortstop Zach Leske lead the Sooners going 3-for-4. Van Horn was 2-for-5 with three RBI.
ASU finishes their two game series with Oklahoma Sunday night at 7 p.m. at Packard Stadium.
