#3- Record 15 Sun Devils Selected In 2008 MLB Draft
Arizona State set a school record in 2008 with 15 players being selected in the Major League Baseball draft. The 15 Sun Devils are the most from any school in one year since the inception of the draft in 1965.
The Devils also boasted two first-round picks for the sixth time in school history, as Brett Wallace went 13th overall to the St. Louis Cardinals and Ike Davis went to the New York Mets with the 18th selection.
In addition, all 15 of the Sun Devils' selections improved their draft status while at ASU. Davis was a 19th round pick and Wallace went in the 42nd round out of high school before becoming first-round selections in 2008. Others who saw great improvement in their draft position included Petey Paramore, who went from a 22nd round pick in 2005 to a third-round selection this year, and Kiel Roling, who went from the 31st round in 2006 to a sixth-round pick in 2008. Also, three of the 15 Sun Devils were previously undrafted, led by Jason Kipnis, who went in the fourth round this year.
Overall, Arizona State has now had 24 players taken in the first round of the draft all-time and leads all schools with 367 players taken since the draft began.
