TEMPE, Ariz. - Francisco Sanchez followed up his gold-medal 100 meter butterfly performance on Tuesday with a ninth-place showing in Wednesday's 100 freestyle at the XII Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Sanchez, a 1999 Arizona State graduate and school record holder in the 100 free, won the consolation finals in a time of 50.83. Ecuador's Felipe Delgago, who last swam for ASU in 1997, placed 12th at 51.75. The gold medal went to Brazil's Fernando Scherer in a winning time of 49.19.

Also slated for action Friday are current Sun Devil seniors Pablo Abal and Carolyn Adel. Abal will compete in the 100 backstroke and join Sanchez in the 50 free. Adel, who captured bronze Monday in the 400 individual medley, will aim for her second medal in the 200 IM.
